CLAC Career Development College is an accredited training institute for providing welder technical training for all levels - from pre-employment to journeyperson.
* These programs are made possible by funding from the Government of Alberta.
In the first period of training, students will complete the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) curriculum over an 8-week session.
Students are provided instruction and supporting information on safety, drawings and blueprints, understanding welding flaws, the tools of the trade, and trades mathematics.
In the second period of training, students will complete the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) curriculum over an 8-week session.
This curriculum includes the theoretical and practical introduction of shielded metal arc welding (stick), and gas tungsten arc welding (tig). Students will work with alloy materials, create patterns and templates, and build on fabrication techniques used across the industry.
In the third period of training, students will complete the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) curriculum over an 8-week session.
Shop training focuses on the hand skills needed for the B-Pressure test, while classroom theory covers welding codes, metal science, and advanced blueprint interpretation.
Students will be fully supported in preparing for the Red Seal exam and meeting interprovincial certification requirements.
Note: You’re welcome to register and begin your classroom training even if you haven’t found an employer yet. However, securing one early is strongly encouraged so you can complete your on-the-job hours. Most apprentices enter their classes already having some work experience.
