Welder Apprenticeship Training – Third Year

In the third period, delivered over 8 weeks, students advance their skills in GTAW and SMAW.

Shop training focuses on the hand skills needed for the B-Pressure test, while classroom theory covers welding codes, metal science, and advanced blueprint interpretation.

Students will be fully supported in preparing for the Red Seal exam and meeting interprovincial certification requirements.

Section 1 – Shielded metal arc welding 3

Section 2 – Welds on mild steel plate and pipe

Section 3 – Drawing interpretation

Section 4 – Trade science

Apprentice Eligibility

Minimum Requirements
  • English 10-2
  • Math 10-3 OR,
  • A pass mark in all 5 Canadian General Education Development (GED Tests), OR
  • AIT Trades Entrance Exam
Recommended Requirements
  • English 30-2
  • Math 30-3
  • Physics 20 or Chemistry 20 or Science 20
  • Related Career and Technology Studied (CTS Courses)

Prerequisites

  • Completion of Period 2
  • 4860 hours of work experience recommended

Tuition

Period 3 - $1,396

  • Tuition - $1,096.00
  • Books and supplies fee - $300

Come Prepared: Personal Protective Equipment Requirements

Students must provide their own personal protective equipment (PPE). These requirements are in accordance with regulations under Alberta’s Occupational Health & Safety Act.
