The Frank Kooger Apprenticeship Awards

Each year, we distribute several awards to apprentices in the construction trades who strive to excel and who are dedicated to becoming journeypersons in their trades.

These apprentice awards were created in memory of Frank Kooger, a well-respected CLAC representative who passed away in 2008 at the age of 55. Frank was a strong proponent of the trades.

Applications close on February 28 each year.

Several awards are given to a number of registered apprentices who have, at a minimum, officially completed their first year of trade school.

Recipients are chosen based on a combination of grades and recommendation by their school.

The Frank Kooger Skills Canada Award ($2,000)

Applications close on June 30 each year.

One Frank Kooger Skills Canada Award is given to a member of CLAC Local 63 (Frank Kooger’s home local) who is a registered apprentice in a construction trade, and who has advanced to the Skills Canada provincial or territorial competition.

The winner is chosen based on his or her performance at regional Skills Canada events. Additional financial support may also be available to apprentices who go on to compete at the National and World Skills Competition.

Members who receive the Frank Kooger Skills Canada Award may also be awarded one of the Frank Kooger Apprenticeship Awards.
