Locals Local 151 Newsletters Sectors Construction According to the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board, 88 percent of Saskatchewan employers had zero injuries at their workplace in 2016. They also found that 2016 had the lowest lost-time injury rate in Saskatchewan in the past 64 years. While these are great accomplishments, Saskatchewan still has the third-highest workplace injury rate compared to other provinces in Canada. There are estimated to be 420,279 Saskatchewan workers covered under the WCB framework. Unfortunately, 31 families last year were informed their loved one died at the workplace. Safety is a shared responsibility of workers, the union, and the employer. Look out for one another to prevent unnecessary loss and grief for another member’s family. Always communicate with your steward, union representative, and on-site management to provide feedback on recommendations for safer work practices.
