Blogs Meet Emilie Rose Saretsky, a carpenter with PCL Builders Inc., who took a chance on a career she never expected, and is very glad she did. How long have you been in your position? I have been in my position with PCL for almost a year. How did you get into carpentry? Carpentry was never a career I thought about pursuing. I thought I’d wind up in a different trade living a different lifestyle. One day, the opportunity was presented to me by a friend and I’m beyond grateful I took the chance. What has helped you along the way? I have had an amazing group of people who have encouraged me and cheered for me. Many new skills and ideas have prospered though the guidance and kindness of these people. One of the things I have learned in my career at PCL is the right crew really can make all the difference in our work and personal lives. What makes you proud of the work you do? I feel proud every single day of the work I do and the energy I bring. Some days are definitely harder than others, and it’s not for every woman, but what’s the harm in trying something different? I didn’t think I’d be able to do a lot of the things I do on a day to day basism but here we are!” What do you find most rewarding about carpentry? I believe my work is very fulfilling; I get to watch a puzzle be built all the time! And when that last piece is placed, boy, it’s an amazing feeling! Thank you, Emilie, for sharing your story and reminding other women that sometimes a career you never considered can turn out to be the right one. Interested in joining the trades?
