Cedarcroft Place Workers Receive First Collective Agreement with CLAC Through Arbitration

Stratford, ON—Local 305 members working at Cedarcroft Place Retirement Residence in Stratford, Ontario, have received a long-awaited arbitration award establishing a new two-year collective agreement. The retirement home has 57 active members, and the award marks Cedarcroft’s first collective agreement with CLAC.

The bargaining process was extended after the parties were required to proceed to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) to determine whether the home fell under the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act. After CLAC won that argument at the OLRB, the collective agreement went to arbitration. Despite the delay, members are pleased with the outcome, which strengthens the collective agreement through improved language and meaningful gains.

The two-year agreement is effective January 1, 2024, and includes a 3.5 percent general wage increase effective January 1, 2024, followed by a further 3.5 percent general wage increase effective January 1, 2025. In addition to these general increases, further wage adjustments were awarded in each classification, resulting in total increases over the term ranging from 7.12 percent to 14.27 percent.

The award also includes enhancements to dental and vision care, increased sick leave benefits for part-time employees, and the introduction of an afternoon shift premium.
