Your Apprenticeship Journey: Make the Most of the Resources Available to You!

Your apprenticeship is an important step toward building a successful career in the skilled trades. Whether you are just starting out, getting ready for trade school, or working toward certification, CLAC and Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) have resources to help you along the way.

There is a lot to keep track of during your apprenticeship, but you don't have to figure everything out on your own! Here are some helpful resources and reminders to keep you moving forward.

Stay on Top of Your Trade School Offers in Ontario

If you're an apprentice in Ontario, it's important to understand when you can expect an offer to attend in-class training.

Skilled Trades Ontario automatically sends school offers 105 days before the scheduled class start date. If you haven't received an offer, you may be able to request a manual school offer starting 45 days before the class begins if seats are available.

Keep in mind that class start dates may change, and training spots are not guaranteed.

Need help with a manual school offer or have questions about trade school scheduling? Contact CLAC Apprenticeship! Our team can help you with the manual school offer process and answer your questions.

Check Out the Skilled Trades Ontario Apprentice Toolkit

Did you know that Skilled Trades Ontario has an Apprentice Toolkit designed to help you through every stage of your apprenticeship?

This guide is packed with useful information to help you understand your apprenticeship and stay on track.

The toolkit covers topics such as:

  • Getting started and registering your apprenticeship
  • Keeping your Training Standard Logbook up to date
  • Understanding and responding to trade school offers
  • Changing employers or apprenticeship sponsors
  • Financial support, grants, and Employment Insurance (EI)
  • Completing your apprenticeship and preparing for certification

The toolkit also explains the importance of keeping your contact information and school preferences updated with STO.

Helpful tip: Make sure you have two preferred training locations selected in your STO account. This can improve your chances of receiving a school offer at a location that works for you.
