WSIB Fund Surplus Distribution Model

A CLAC submission to the Ontario government

CLAC has submitted a paper to the Ontario government outlining our responses and recommendations on the distribution model for any Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) fund surplus.

CLAC makes the following recommendations.

Recommendation 1: CLAC recommends that surplus payments not be made to employers

in bad standing and employers who are guilty of claim suppression in the last three years.

Recommendation 2: CLAC recommends that surpluses should be paid based on an inverse

relationship between the employer’s rate and the premium rate for their rate group.

Recommendation 3: Distribute any surplus as a premium reduction over three years.

Recommendation 4: Fully implement the recommendations of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
