World-Class Trans Mountain Expansion Project Proving Its Value to Workers, Canada, and Global Industry
Edmonton—Today’s announcement regarding the new estimated cost of the Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) project and its updated timeline are reflections of the dedication and value of the workers who have helped bring the project to this point and a huge step forward for Canadian industry.
Now reaching $30.9 billion in cost, the project, which is expected to reach mechanical completion at the end of this year and be in service in early 2024, will continue to be an important source of work in British Columbia and Alberta and will help fuel business across the country.
“This project is a monumental undertaking, the scale of which is hard to grasp without visiting the many work locations along its route,” says Wayne Prins, CLAC executive director. “The economic and social benefits of the project have already had profound positive impacts regionally and nationally, and once complete, the lasting benefits of the pipeline will extend even internationally with improved global energy security delivered in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
“The more than 5,000 CLAC members who have worked on the project are extremely proud of having built the majority of the new pipeline, and we are thankful for the collaborative and respectful relationships that have been fostered between labour, the contractors, the client, and the many communities that are impacted by construction activities.
“When it comes to quality, leak detection, care for the environment, and positive social impacts, the TMX project sets a new standard for world-class pipelines. Canadians, as the owners of the pipeline, can have confidence in the safety and economic value of the pipeline, both now and for generations to come.”
