Tuesday, August 24, 2021 Workers Leave Unifor, Join CLAC Frustrated workers at a nursing home and a retirement home had had enough of poor representation Locals Local 303 Local 304 Newsletters Ontario Healthcare Sectors Construction On August 12, 2021, workers at Meadow Park in Chatham voted 86 percent in favour of leaving Unifor and joining CLAC Local 303. They followed on the heels of workers at Cedarcroft Place Retirement Community in Oshawa, who voted 83 percent in favour of leaving Unifor to join CLAC Local 304 on July 13, 2021. “Lack of representation was the biggest factor that drove the workers from these two facilities to vote overwhelmingly in favour of leaving Unifor and choosing CLAC to represent them,” says Kevin Gates, representative. “The employees were frustrated with poor representation and a lack of service from Unifor. They decided it was time for a change.” Locals 303 and 304 look forward to representing their newest members. They have already been busy working alongside their employee-elected stewards and bargaining committees to provide the representation that these front-line healthcare heroes deserve.
