Monday, November 19, 2018 Wicked Welding Sparks Creative Competition Local 63 Newsletters Students from nine Edmonton-area high schools were at the CLAC Member Centre on October 20, 2018, for Wicked Welding, an annual event sponsored by CLAC Training and the CWB Foundation. Teams of students spent the day creating Halloween-themed metal sculptures, and were then evaluated for creativity, use of various cutting and welding processes, teamwork, sportsmanship, safety, and final presentations. Many prizes were awarded at the end of the day. The overall winner was the team from Sturgeon Composite High School. We thank the many vendors, partners, and suppliers who contributed to the day: Lincoln, Miller, Praxair, Greggs, Bi-Metal Industrial Products, and General Steel. All the students went home with welding-related gifts to use at their schools or on their own. Sturgeon Composite designed the poster for the event and the T-shirts that students received. Two schools’ culinary arts programs (St. Joseph and Oscar Remora) supplied both the lunch and the dinner, which were open to students, teachers, and the many family members who showed up at the end of the day to see what the students made.
