The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 6. The union has represented the 40 electricians and apprentices since 2009. The new contract includes an initial wage increase of $2.59 per hour to the journeyperson wage rate, followed by one percent increases each six months thereafter, for a total increase of $5.31 over the life of the agreement. The settlement also provides significant improvements to travel pay and live-out allowances, as well as increased responsibility premiums for forepersons and lead hands. “The membership was clear about their priorities,” says Robert Brink, CLAC representative. “Our bargaining committee worked hard with management to find ways to get those priorities in place.” Waltec specializes in controls, panels, and other electrical work, with an emphasis on the food processing and distribution sector.
