Tabor Manor Employees Overwhelmingly Ratify New Two-Year Contract

St. Catharines, ON—The 300 employees of Tabor Manor, a long term care home in St. Catharines, Ontario, voted 87 percent in favour of ratifying a two-year collective agreement providing significant wage increases and other improvements.

The employees are represented by Niagara Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 302. The union has represented them since 2009.

The new contract brings wages for all classifications at or above industry standard, with increases ranging from 6 to 10.5 percent. This result comes following a new wage grid for registered staff wages that is above hospital rates. Other improvements include an increase to the uniform allowance and an increase to vision-care coverage to $375 every two years.

“This agreement finally brings us above the Extendicare master rates, after many years of being behind,” says Aren Plante, CLAC representative. “We’re pleased that an overwhelming majority of the membership endorsed this new agreement. It not only provides for their needs, but it allows the home to better attract and retain staff.”

Tabor Manor is a long term care home that accommodates up to 128 individuals in private or semi-private rooms. The home provides 24-hour nursing care by qualified staff supervised by registered nursing staff. The home’s 300 employees work as RNs, RPNs, personal support workers, dietary staff, cooks, maintenance staff, and housekeeping staff.
