The 240-plus employees are represented by Niagara Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 302. The union has represented them since August 2009. The new contract permanently includes the provincial government’s $3 wage enhancement not only for personal support workers but also for registered staff. Wage increases for all classifications were significant, with increases at the top of the wage grid of 16 percent or more over the term of the agreement for all food service workers, cooks, housekeepers, and therapeutic recreationists, as well as 10 percent for maintenance workers. “With inflation running at seven percent, the union bargaining committee identified wages as the number one issue for members during this round of negotiations,” says Michael Reid, CLAC representative. “We were pleased to be able to present an industry-leading settlement to our members.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
