Monday, August 5, 2019 Supporting Our Communities in Alberta June 2019 Building Communities Winners Locals Local 63 Newsletters Twice per year, CLAC awards donations of $1,000, $1,500, or $2,500 to local causes nominated by members. All causes and amounts are selected at random from qualified nominations. The following causes were nominated by Local 63 members and won! Airdrie Food Bank Airdrie Food Bank received a $2,500 donation. The organization was nominated by Bryan Batovonja, who is employed by AECOM Maintenance Contractors Ltd. “Airdrie Food bank’s [AFB] mission is to collect and distribute food to those in need and help their community find solutions to hunger-related issues,” says Bryan. “The AFB is continuously raising money within the community for several programs, including Fuel 4 Kids, which provides a lunch program for two of our local schools, and the Food Hampers program, which contains enough food for a week to 10 days for families in need. This donation will go a long way with helping the struggling families in our community.” Heatherton Youth Darts Heatherton Youth Darts, in Heatherton, Newfoundland, received a $2,500 donation. The organization was nominated by Markoosie Hulan, who is employed by the Ledcor Group. “Heatherton Youth Darts is one of the only teen groups in this area,” says Markoosie. “There are about 30 kids in this group who work hard each year to raise money for new team jerseys and travel costs. The team is aiming to raise $8,000 and this generous donation will go a long way to helping us meet our fundraising goal.” Human Animal Rescue Society (HART) HART, located in Edmonton, received a $1,500 donation from CLAC. The organization was nominated by Eric Frank, who is employed by Nason Contracting Group Ltd. “HART is a nonprofit organization committed to rescuing stray, abandoned, and unwanted dogs from rural areas surrounding Edmonton and places them into safe homes,” says Eric. “HART also provides programs that promote responsible pet ownership and prevent cruelty to animals. We strive to keep our operating costs low, allowing us to connect more dogs with loving homes. We rely entirely on the generosity, skills, and compassion of our volunteer network.
