Wednesday, February 10, 2021 Strengthening the Future of Ontario's Healthcare System Revise Bill 124, expand WSIB among the cornerstones of CLAC's 2021 Ontario prebudget submission Policy Briefs CLAC has provided the Ontario government with its recommendations for the 2021 provincial budget, with an emphasis on ways to improve and strengthen the province's healthcare system. The submission lists five recommendations that CLAC believes will help foster a better future for Ontario, including its much-underfunded long term care sector. 1. Revise Bill 124 so that all healthcare workers are exempt from the one percent cap on wages. 2. Make the $3 per hour wage adjustment for PSWs permanent and extend it to all front-line workers in long term care, the homecare sector, and community living facilities. 3. Address the staffing crisis in long term care by reducing the timeline to achieve an average of four hours of hands-on care per resident, per day. 4. Apply full funding for four hours of hands-on care per resident, per day to six facilities to study and understand how best to achieve the new standard of care. 5. Expand WSIB coverage to include workers in retirement homes, residential care facilities, and group homes. The full submission is available for download below.
