Skilled Trades Ontario Adds New Online Services

Skilled Trades Ontario (STO), working with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, has added new online services to its digital portal. This portal first launched in 2022 and gives apprentices, tradespeople, and employers a secure way to manage important tasks.

The newest updates make it faster and easier to complete key steps in the apprenticeship journey.

Apprentices can now submit their Apprenticeship Completion Form online. This helps speed up the process of becoming certified. Users can also request changes to their registered training agreements (RTAs), such as suspensions or cancellations, directly through the portal.

Another helpful feature is online exam booking. Apprentices can now choose when to write their certification exams, giving them more control over their schedule.

The portal’s home screen has also been improved. It is now organized into clear tabs:

  • Applications: Apply for apprenticeship training or request a change of sponsor.
  • History: View past applications and agreements.
  • Agreements: Update active agreements and submit completion or termination requests.
  • Qualifications: (for apprentices) Manage trade qualifications.

Both apprentices and sponsors can now submit completion and termination requests through the Agreements tab. This makes it easier to track progress and stay informed.

In addition to the new features, users can still:

  • Access and digitally sign RTAs
  • Submit apprenticeship applications
  • Submit Change of Sponsor applications
  • View CofQ exam results
  • Renew Certificates of Qualification in compulsory trades
  • Apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment
  • Update contact information

STO says these updates are part of a larger plan to modernize services and make them easier to use. By moving more services online, they aim to reduce delays, remove barriers, and improve the overall experience.

Future updates are expected as STO continues to build a simple, reliable, and user-friendly system to support Ontario’s skilled trades workforce. Read more about these services on the STO website
