Newsletters Manitoba Local 306 Sectors Retail National Day for Truth and Reconciliation September 30, 2021 marked the first annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a new new federal statutory holiday enacted by the federal government. This day only applies as a statutory holiday for workplaces that fall under federal labour law and those workplaces where a collective agreement includes the day. CLAC and Save-On-Foods are not yet in agreement about how our collective agreement language should be interpreted. We will be taking this matter to arbitration (an independent person, similar to a judge) who will hear both sides, help us reach an agreement, and make a ruling for us if needed. Watch for more updates! Cooperate to Win On November 17, 2021, stewards and management representatives participated in a day session called Cooperate to Win. This is a joint effort between CLAC and SOF that reviews the basics of interest-based labour relations. Upcoming Negotiations CLAC is starting to plan for upcoming negotiations to renew the collective between Local 306 and SOF, which expires September 30, 2022. 4 Things to Watch For Selection of a bargaining committee to assist CLAC representatives in negotiations A survey to collect your ideas and priorities for negotiations Your bargaining committee will meet to review survey results and craft proposals. Later in the process, you can expect a meeting, possibly virtually, to review proposals and give feedback before we begin meeting with the company to negotiate. Interested? Have questions? In your collective agreement, Section 11.01-11.05 says that part time team members scheduling of hours will be done by seniority, limited by an employee’s availability, within the department(s) they are assigned. Part-time team members will be permitted to limit their availability to work certain days of the week or hours of the day once they have completed their probation period. How does this work? To be scheduled for 40 hours per week, a part-time or full-time team member needs to have open availability. A team member’s maximum scheduled hours will be reduced by the amount their availability is restricted. The table below shows what your availability means for the maximum number of hours you may be assigned in a given week. Your % Availability during Store Hours Your Maximum Weekly Hours Possible 100 40 75 30 50 20 25 10 If the time you are available does not match the shifts available, you still might not be scheduled to your maximum. For example, you might be available for 50 percent of the store’s hours, but you might be available during times when team members are not needed.
