Thursday, May 15, 2025 RVilla Caledonia Retirement Living Employees Unanimously Ratify New Contract Local 305 Ratifications Health Care Caledonia, ON— Employees of RVilla Caledonia Retirement Living, a retirement home in Caledonia, Ontario, unanimously ratified a two-year collective agreement providing them with yearly wage increases and several other improvements. The employees are represented by Grand River Valley Healthcare Workers Union, CLAC Local 305. The union has represented the home’s employees since 1999. The new contract provides employees with a 3.5 percent wage increase in each year, with a guaranteed floor of $0.25 per hour above minimum wage. The agreement represents an average total increase of 7.64 percent over the term. Other improvements include an increase to the employer-paid premium for employees’ extended healthcare benefits plan from 50 to 85 percent and increases to vision-care coverage from $300 to $325, the dental coverage maximum amount from $1,500 to $1,600, and the in-lieu of benefits amount from 2.5 to 3 percent. In addition, the weekend premium increases from $0.20 to $0.25 per hour. “This settlement delivers real results for the dedicated RVilla workers who keep this residence running every day,” says Shawn Branton, CLAC representative. “From meaningful wage increases to stronger benefits and pensions, it responds directly to the realities our members face—from inflation to affordability. It’s a contract rooted in fairness, and it positions RVilla as a stronger, more supportive workplace for all.” RVilla Caledonia Retirement Living is a 48-bed retirement residence offering a welcoming environment with 24-hour staff assistance, nutritious meals, housekeeping, and a range of social and recreational programs. The home employs 20 Local 305 members working as kitchen aides, guest attendants, dietary aides, housekeeping aides, cooks, and charge staff.
