The contract includes numerous benefits improvements, including an increase in life insurance payout from $25,000 to $70,000, an increase in vision-care coverage from $200 to $500, an increase in paramedical coverage from $500 to $600, and an increase in coverage for prescription medication of 90% or 95%. Other improvements include to the tool and boot allowance from $400/yr. after 1 year of service to $500/yr. after 6 months, to the daily out-of-town food allowance from $50 to $60, and to the mileage rate from 55¢/km. to 64¢. The contract also provides new premiums for gas fitters and those performing pressure piping as well as an increase in the night-shift premium from 10% to 12%. Local 53 members employed by this London-based company unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with total value increases between 15.2 and 15.9%, depending on classification. Along with solid hourly pay increases each year, the new agreement also provides for increased employer contributions to employees’ pension plan and healthcare benefits as well as improved travel reimbursement and a new provision of 2 paid sick days per year. KS Zyp Ltd. Local 53 members employed by this Wardsville-based contractor voted unanimously in favour of ratifying a 3-year agreement providing them with annual wage increases of 3.5% this year and 3% in each subsequent year. The employer’s contribution to fund members’ healthcare benefits was increased to $2.20/hr. Meal allowance paid when working out of town increases to $60/day along with rate adjustments applicable to any claimed mileage. Liftsafe Engineering & Service Group Local 53 members employed by this Ayr-based company ratified a 3-year agreement providing them 3.25% wage increase in the 1st year followed by 2.5% increases in the 2nd and 3rd years. A special 1% adjustment was negotiated for shop members. Other improvements include an increase in matching contributions to members’ retirement savings to 3%, an increase in paramedical coverage to $1,200 annually, an additional day of bereavement leave, and an additional personal emergency leave day. In addition, the boot and safety glasses allowance increases to $500, the tool allowance moves to 100% replacement cost, the per diem allowance increases to $60, and the shift premium increases to 1.5 times the hourly rate. Local 52 members employed by this Peterborough-based contractor voted unanimously in favour of ratifying a 3-year agreements providing them with $4/hr. wage increase over the term. In addition, employer contributions to members’ retirement savings were increased by 1.5%, and increases were made to vision coverage and the boot allowance. Network Site Services Ltd. Local 6 members employed by this Cambridge-based excavating contractor ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with an 8% wage increase over the term as well as an increase in employer contributions to their retirement savings from 10 to 12% of gross wages by 2026. Other improvements include an increase to the life insurance payout to $70,000 and an increase to vision-care coverage to $500 every 2 years. P.H.E. Contractor Sales Ltd. Local 52 members employed by this Brampton-based electrical contractor unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with a $10.37/hr. (22%) total package increase over the term, including a 2% increase to employer contributions to members’ pension plan. Increases were made to the boot, tool, and out-of-town allowances and a new clothing allowance was introduced. Other improvements include benefits coverage extended to apprentices during trade school, increased mileage rates, and the addition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday. Poirier Electric Limited Local 53 members employed by this Windsor-based electrical contractor ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with a 13% increase to wages over the term. In addition, employer contributions to members’ retirement savings increase to 10%, and the eligibility period to begin receiving them was reduced. Along with other improvements, the total package value of the contract represents an increase of 23% over the previous contract. PSE Services Local 52 members employed by this King-based electrical contractor unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with a 17.5% wage increase over the term. In addition, employer contributions to members’ pension plan increased by 4%, and improvements were made to the boot allowance. Wilhelm Concrete Local 53 members employed by this Stratford-based company unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with an immediate 7% wage increase. The total 3-year value of all compensation ranges from 15 to 16%, depending on classification. Significant to the total package is a 2% increase in employer contributions to members’ pension plan. The contract also increases payments for daily allowance, mileage rate, travel, and the annual allowance for workwear, tools, or boots. A particular beneficial new clause is short term leave with full pay for the birth or adoption of a child.
