Employer contributions to the union pension plan will increase by 2% for a total of 12%. Benefits improvements include increased prescription drug, long term disability, and life insurance coverage. P.H.E. Contractor Sales Ltd. Local 52 members employed by this Brampton-based contractor unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with wage increases, increases to employer contributions to the pension plan, an increase to vacation pay provisions, and improved living-out allowances. The agreement provides total compensation increases of at least 11.5% over the term. Poirier Electric Ltd. Local 53 electricians and electrician apprentices employed by this Windsor-based contractor ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with over 8% total increases over the term, including increases to wages, employer pension contributions, vacation pay, life insurance, and boot allowance. Pre-Eng Contracting Ltd. Local 52 members employed by this Concord-based contractor unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing increases totalling about 13% over the term, plus an additional 2% through increased vacation pay for long term employees. Travel provisions were also improved substantially. Wallwin Electric Services Limited Local 52 members employed by this Barrie-base contractor ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with wage increases of 2.5, 2.5, and 3% over the term and includes additional protection against inflation. If the Ontario 12-month trailing average consumer price index, as determined by Statistics Canada, is more than 3% on November 30 for any year of the agreement, then the percentage above 3% will be divided by 2 and automatically applied to the wage rate. Other improvements include an increase in the vision care benefit from $250 to $350 and the tool and boot allowance from $200 to $300. The night-shift premium was improved from 8 to 10%. In addition, a new foreperson level was included for those running small projects. Members also saw improvements to travel provisions. Wilhelm Concrete Local 53 members employed by this Stratford-based company ratified their first agreement. The local was certified by the labour board to represent the members in July 2021. The agreement, which took effect February 6, 2022, establishes a full spectrum of union contract benefits for the employees including annual wage increases, improved healthcare benefits, and first contributions to a true pension plan. Other notable aspects include vacation pay increases, paid work time for health and safety training courses, and an improved annual workwear and safety footwear allowance.
