Monday, September 6, 2021 Ratifications Locals Local 63 Newsletters Alberta Local 63 LTS Build Services Ltd. Members unanimously ratified a 30-month agreement providing wage increases of 1% this year, 1.25% in 2022, and 1% in 2023. In addition, improvements were made to contract language regarding best practices and premiums for clarity and consistency. Members are employed as MxU techs, cable splicers, lineman, and labourers. LTS does work primarily for Telus installing their fibre optic cable infrastructure (5G). OCL Construction Services LP Members voted over 67% in favour of a new 32-month agreement, with 71% of eligible members voting. The agreement keeps OCL in line with other CLAC-signatory companies doing similar work in pipe and infrastructure (in the fence pipe maintenance/construction). Members are currently working in the Wood Buffalo region at sites including IOL Kearl, Syncrude, and Enbridge. Strathcona Mechanical Limited Members employed as plumbers by this Leduc-based contractor unanimously ratified a 2-year agreement providing good monetary conditions while maintaining current wage levels. Members are working on the $62 million Vivo Recreation Centre expansion. Strathcona has a history of working on large commercial projects including the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, University of Lethbridge, and a number of other public projects, including schools as well as hotels. True North Instrumentation & Electrical Services Inc. The 50 members employed as electricians and instrument technicians ratified their first agreement with True North (previously owned by ABB Inc.), with over 81% voting in favour. The contract will see members’ wages hold throughout what’s been a tough time for the electrical industry with a wage review in November 2021. Employer benefit plan contributions saw a slight increase to ensure members’ hour banks remain fully funded. Best practice language was improved, along with an increase to members’ daily subsistence allowance when working out of town. Technical Workforce Inc. (TWI) Members ratified a 2-year agreement, with 86% percent voting in favour. The contract includes wage increases for the civil division of 1.5% effective July 1, 2021, and another 1.5% increase effective March 1, 2022. A wage review is scheduled for March 2023. The majority of members are working in the Calgary region on a number of civil construction projects. A smaller number of members are working at two sites in the Fort McMurray region.
