Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Project Spotlight – Stratford Theatre Local 53 members employed by JMR help build new Stratford Theatre Newsletters Sectors Construction Project: New Tom Patterson Theatre for the Stratford Festival Location: Stratford, Ontario Local 53 members on site: JMR Electric will have 40-50 electrical, mechanical, and sheet metal employees on the project over the summer at the project’s peak. Construction cost: $45.7 million ($68 million total including fixtures, equipment, etc.) Completion date: 2020 The Tom Patterson Theatre in Stratford inhabited a retrofitted curling rink for 45 years. That building was old and tired and the theatre was in need of a new space. Stratford’s city council sold the property to the Stratford Festival so that they could tear down the old structure and build a new theatre. Construction on the 77,564-square-foot theatre began in 2018. The theatre, with its 600-seat auditorium, is designed with the riverside setting in mind. It includes rolling glass and bronze exterior walls, masonry walls in the auditorium, and a terraced garden. Ellis Don is the general contractor, and JMR Electric has been subcontracted to complete the electrical and mechanical work. Visit stratfordfestival.ca to learn more.
