Sunday, November 19, 2023 PPE and Toilet/Hygiene Regulation Changes As of July 1, 2023, new regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act came into effect regarding personal protective equipment and clothing and toilet facilities/hygiene Newsletters Ontario Construction Sectors Construction For PPE, the change stipulates that it must properly fit all body types. The new rule is intended to address the problem of ill-fitting PPE supplied on construction sites, in particular for women. Washroom facilities must be located not more than 90 metres from the project work area where possible and no further than 180 metres from the project area. They must include • a toilet with an open-front seat; • a toilet paper holder and an adequate supply of toilet paper; • a self-closing door that can be locked from the inside; and • adequate light, heat, ventilation, privacy, and protection from weather and falling objects. Single-toilet facilities must be completely enclosed. For projects where sewered or non-sewered flush toilet facilities are not available, other types of toilet facilities must be provided. At least one facility must be designated and marked as female only when a minimum of five toilets are required on a site. It must contain a sanitary napkin receptacle. Each single toilet facility must have its own clean-up station. One clean-up station must be provided for every two toilets at a multiple-toilet facility. These clean-up stations must include a wash basin and running water. If this is not possible, hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60 percent alcohol must be provided.
