Friday, February 21, 2025 Poirier Electric Employees Secure Significant Wage Increases with New Contract Locals Local 53 Ratifications Sectors Construction WINDSOR, ON—Employees of Poirier Electric Limited, an electrical contractor based in Windsor, Ontario, overwhelmingly ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with significant wage increases over the term. The 35 electricians and electrician apprentices voted 88 percent in favour of ratifying the agreement negotiated by their union, Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. The union has represented the company’s employees for over 50 years, having been certified by the Ontario Labour Relations Board to represent them on November 26, 1973. The new contract provides employees with a 13 percent increase to wages over the term. In addition, employer contributions to employees’ retirement savings increase to 10 percent, and the eligibility period to begin receiving them was reduced. Along with other improvements, the total package value of the contract represents an increase of 23 percent over the previous contract. “After the massive inflationary spike seen throughout the country over the last few years, it was a net positive to get the group up to a fair compensation,” says Alex Kuiper, CLAC representative. “The settlement will also help the company draw in competent tradespeople looking to create a career for themselves. This contract is a win for electricians in the Windsor region.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
