Sunday, March 6, 2022 Poirier Electric Employees Ratify New Contract Providing Many Improvements Locals Local 53 Ratifications Sectors Construction Windsor, ON—Electricians and electrician apprentices employed by Windsor-based Poirier Electric Ltd. ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with many improvements to their contract. The employees are members of Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. The union has represented them since 1973. The new contract provides the 25 employees with over eight percent total increases over the term, including increases to wages, employer pension contributions, vacation pay, life insurance, and boot allowance. With the negotiated increases, Poirier employees are some of the top-paid electricians in the region. “Inflationary spikes and labour supply issues continue to grow, which made for a difficult bargaining environment,” says Alex Kuiper, CLAC representative. “Despite that, the group was able to come up with a fair settlement.” “The cost of living increases and high demand for skilled trades led to a serious round of bargaining,” agrees Brian Trudel, a member of the union bargaining committee. “Discussion between the viability of the company and the demands to establish fair wages helped to direct our course and ultimately led to a good outcome for all.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
