People of Site C

Shortly after forming a minority government, the NDP followed through on its campaign promise to send the largest public infrastructure in the history of BC, the Site C Clean Energy Project, to the British Columbia Utility Commission (BCUC) for review. The BCUC was charged with the task of weighing the impact of continuing, delaying, or cancelling the project, casting a dark cloud of uncertainty over the project and the people working there—including hundreds of Local 68 members.

As part of our response, we launched an innovative campaign—People of Site C—to support our members and all workers on Site C, and to ensure the government considers the impact of its decisions on the lives of the project’s workforce and the local community.

People of Site C is a website that features stories and photos of Local 68 members and aims to connect the public to the megaproject and the people building it—the people who were counting on years of steady employment at Site C.

To date, multiple media outlets have reported on the campaign, attracting thousands to the website. We also ran a series of advertisements in The Province and promoted the campaign on social media.

Local 68 members are proud to be working on a project that will provide clean, renewable energy for their communities for decades. People of Site C celebrates their hard work, and the legacy that they continue to build.
