CLAC's Statement on Canada's Energy Future

Canada’s energy future depends on turning opportunity into projects, jobs, and long-term economic growth.

CLAC welcomes Minister Tim Hodgson's comments on the importance of Canada's energy sector and the opportunities it creates for Canadian workers. Canada has the resources, the skilled workforce, and the expertise to remain a global energy leader. What workers need is the confidence that important projects can move from proposal to reality. Delays and uncertainty do not just affect investment. They affect the people who are ready to build.

Our members help build the infrastructure that powers Canada and drives our economy. They work on pipelines, oil sands projects, processing facilities, electrical systems, transmission networks, and industrial sites across the country. They understand the value of these projects because they see the impact in their workplaces, communities, and homes.

"When people talk about energy projects, what they're really talking about is people,” says CLAC Executive Director Wayne Prins. “They're talking about construction workers, tradespeople, apprentices, and the families who depend on those jobs."

CLAC believes Canada can develop its natural resources responsibly while maintaining strong environmental standards and working in partnership with Indigenous communities. Those goals can and should work together.

They are ready to help build the next generation of projects that will create jobs, strengthen communities, and support Canada's long-term economic growth.
