The new contract provides registered care aides with wage increases ranging from 8 to 15 percent over the first two years with a wage review in the third year. In addition, the live-in allowance was increased, and new premiums were negotiated for employees caring for high acuity clients. Of special interest to employees was new contract language specifying that sick notes will now only be needed after the second time calling in sick and new 50 percent reimbursement toward the cost of obtaining sick notes. “This was a great set of negotiations,” says Aleasha Wegner, representative. “The employer truly cares about the well-being of their employees.
