Sunday, June 24, 2018 Ontario Firefighters Get Expanded Cancer Coverage Local 911 Local 920 Newsletters Emergency Medical Services The Ontario government has broadened the list of cancers that are presumed to be work-related for volunteer firefighters and fire inspectors. The province will now cover claims by firefighters diagnosed with cervical, ovarian, and penile cancers. The move was announced in April by former Ontario Labour Minister Kevin Flynn. It will ensure greater access to healthcare and compensation. Previously, coverage was limited to multiple myeloma, and testicular, breast, prostate, lung, and skin cancers. Cervical and ovarian cancers were added in recognition of the growing number of women joining fire departments across the province, Flynn said.
