Tuesday, April 9, 2024 North Frontenac Employees Secure Significant, Wage, Retirement Gains with New Contract Locals Local 52 Ratifications Sectors Construction Etobicoke, ON—Local 52 members employed by North Frontenac Telephone Haliburton Corp., based in Etobicoke, Ontario, unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with significant wage and retirement savings increases. The new contract provides 15 percent wage increases over the term. Red-circled employees will also receive the negotiated rate increases. In addition, employees with up to four years of employment will receive a two percent increase to employer contributions to their retirement savings while those with five or more years of service (formerly nine or more) will receive a 3.25 percent increase. A new 10 percent foreperson premium was negotiated along with a $100 increase to the boot and clothing allowance. The out-of-town meal allowance was increased and the per kilometre rate for mileage was increased to 2024 Canada Revenue Agency rates. Employees with up to four years of service will receive a one percent increase to vacation pay and employees with five or more years of service (formerly nine or more) will receive a two percent increase. The agreement also includes significant increases to members’ health benefits and increases to the union’s E&A Fund and Industry Fund. “North Frontenac is a telecommunications company that promotes a family atmosphere,” says Randy Parris, representative. “The union bargaining committee was challenged with the tension of securing ample wage increases for the members, while ensuring the employer could still be profitable and secure long term work for its employees. We had an efficient bargaining session and were able to finalize a settlement ratified unanimously by the membership.” Local 52 members are employed as labourers, network technicians, service technicians, and operators by North Frontenac Telephone Haliburton Corp. Members are currently employed in London, Haliburton, and surrounding areas.
