Wednesday, February 2, 2022 New PTSI Centre for First Responders and Front-Line Healthcare Workers The Ontario government announced in March that it will provide $1 million toward a new centre to treat first responders and front-line healthcare workers suffering from posttraumatic stress injury (PTSI) Newsletters Ontario Emergency Services Ontario Healthcare The new First Responders Post-Traumatic Stress Injury Rehabilitation Treatment and Assessment Centre is being built by Toronto’s Runnymede Healthcare Centre. It will provide assessment and treatment for firefighters, police officers, paramedics, correctional workers, emergency dispatch operators, and front-line healthcare workers for PTSI and substance use. The centre will also provide 24/7 crisis and peer support and aftercare. The 40-bed centre will be built on a 26-acre site in Caledon. The government estimates that 13,000 first responders suffer from PTSI. The centre is the first of its kind in Canada.
