New Exam Centre for Skilled Trades Ontario

Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) has opened a new exam centre in Kenora, making it easier for apprentices in Northwestern Ontario to complete their certification.

In the past, many apprentices had to travel long distances—sometimes up to five hours—to write exams. This meant extra costs, time away from work, and delays in finishing certification. The new Kenora location at Seven Generations Education Institute helps remove these barriers by bringing exams closer to home.

The Kenora centre is part of a growing network of exam locations across Ontario. With more local options, apprentices can complete their certification faster and with fewer challenges.

Benefits for apprentices include less travel time, lower costs, and quicker access to job opportunities in the skilled trades. Expanding exam locations also helps create a more fair and consistent system across the province.

STO exam centres are now located at:

  • Centennial College (Ashtonbee)
  • Durham College (Whitby)
  • Georgian College (Midland)
  • George Brown College (Casa Loma, Toronto)
  • Humber College (Trades and Technology)
  • Skilled Trades Ontario Headquarters (Mississauga)
  • Algonquin College (Ottawa)
  • Algonquin College (Pembroke)
  • Fleming College (Peterborough)
  • Loyalist College (Belleville)
  • St. Lawrence College (Cornwall)
  • St. Lawrence College (Kingston)
  • Canadore College (Commerce Court, North Bay)
  • Collège Boréal (Timmins)
  • Collège Boréal (Sudbury)
  • Confederation College (Thunder Bay)
  • Confederation College (Kenora)
  • Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie)
  • Conestoga College (Cambridge Skilled Trades Campus)
  • Fanshawe College (London)
  • Georgian College (Owen Sound)
  • Lambton College (Sarnia)
  • Mohawk College (Stoney Creek)
  • St. Clair College (Windsor)

The new Kenora exam centre is an important step in improving access and helping apprentices succeed across Ontario.

CLAC continues to advocate for reducing barriers within apprenticeship progression and applauds the decision to open a new exam centre in Kenora. Through strategic placement of new exam centres in Ontario, we can continue to support more apprentices to become journeypersons.
