Eden Villa Retirement and Assisted Living Workers Ratify New Contract with Wage and Pension Gains

CHATHAM, ON—Health care and service workers at Eden Villa Retirement and Assisted Living in Chatham unanimously ratified a new four-year collective agreement providing significant wage increases, higher pension contributions, and improvements to premiums, vacation, and other workplace provisions.

The 30 employees are represented by Southwestern Ontario Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303, which has represented employees at Eden Villa since 2010.

Under the new collective agreement, Eden Villa employees will receive wage increases of four percent in each of the first three years and three percent in the fourth year. RPNs will also receive special wage adjustments.

Employer pension contributions will increase from two to three percent.

The agreement also provides increased vision coverage and uniform allowances, along with higher training, weekend, and shift premiums. Long-service employees will see additional improvements. Workers with 20 or more years of service will receive an additional week of vacation and corresponding vacation pay.

The agreement also increases employer contributions to the union training fund and strengthens collective agreement language addressing working short and transfer of authority.

“Employees at Eden Villa provide important care and support to residents every day, and they wanted an agreement that recognized both the demands of their work and their years of service,” says Ryan Griffioen, CLAC representative. “The unanimous vote is a strong endorsement of what was achieved at the bargaining table.”
