Sunday, August 14, 2022 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Newsletters Alberta Local 56 Alberta Local 301 As stated in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada calls to action report, the holiday’s purpose is to “honour survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.” Many Local 301 members have had this day included in their collective agreement’s statutory holidays list though a clause that adds any new holidays proclaimed by the federal or provincial government. We hope that you were able to take some time to reflect on the very important process of reconciliation with Indigenous Canadians.
