Friday, August 13, 2021 Meadow Park Employees Vote Overwhelmingly to Leave Unifor for CLAC News Chatham, ON—Employees of Meadow Park Chatham sent a strong message yesterday when they voted 86 percent in favour of leaving Unifor to join Southwestern Ontario Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303. One-hundred staff members, including registered practical nurses, personal support workers, and those working in the housekeeping, dietary, and activation departments will be represented by CLAC. Voter turnout was equally impressive, with 85 percent of eligible employees casting ballots. “Lack of representation was the biggest factor that drove these employees to leave Unifor and choose CLAC,” says Mary Ellen Alward, CLAC representative. “Employees need to feel protected, supported, and appreciated in their workplace, especially during the last 18 months. Fair, dependable representation within the workplace, along with trained, rep-supported stewards, are what Meadow Park employees will receive from CLAC. “We look forward to working alongside their employee-elected stewards and bargaining committee in the coming weeks and providing the representation that these front-line healthcare heroes deserve.” Meadow Park Chatham is a 99-bed long-term care home that is owned and operated by Jarlette Health Services.
