Minimum wage, September 30 stat holiday, and review of Manitoba's safety and health legislation

Minimum wage – Manitoba is raising the minimum wage to $13.50 on October 1, then to $14.15 on April 1, 2023, and then again to $15 on October 1, 2023.

September 30 statutory holiday – While most CLAC collective agreements required employers to recognize the newest federal holiday, the Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, Manitoba won’t be adopting it this year. But it plans to adopt it for all workplaces in 2023.

Review of workplace safety and health – The Manitoba government is reviewing the Workplace Safety and Health Act to see if any adjustments are needed. According to the government’s news release, “A Workplace Safety and Health Act review committee including labour, employer, and technical representatives will review submissions and provide recommendations to the Manitoba government. The review will focus on strong protections that meet the needs of modern workplaces, improving consistency, and ensuring requirements are clear and reasonable.” The government is inviting organizations and individuals to submit suggestions by November 30. We welcome suggestions from members to consider including in CLAC’s submission to the government. Send your suggestions to manitoba@clac.ca.
