LTS Build Services Employees Secure Wage Gains and Other Improvements with New Contract
Calgary—Employees of LTS Build Services Ltd. overwhelmingly ratified a two-year collective agreement providing them with wage gains and other improvements.
The 50 employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63. The union has represented them since 2018.
The new contract provides two percent wage increases for employees in the civil division and seven percent for those working as splicers in the first year of the contract and two percent total compensation increases in year two. The settlement also includes a new $250 boot allowance, increases to the night-shift and steward premiums, and long term incentives for increased vacation pay. The contract provides improved contract language surrounding tool lists and tool storage as well as for annual employee performance reviews and evaluations. The company also signed on to the union’s new training model, which provides employees with greater training opportunities.
“We made a number of improvements during this round of negotiations that will help our members,” says Ben Timmermans, CLAC representative. “We’re pleased that the agreement was strongly endorsed by the membership, with 92 percent of members voting in favour.”
LTS is involved in the telecommunications industry installing and upgrading fibre optic networks. It recently completed a project in High Level, Alberta, as part of a government program to provide rural communities with high-speed Internet access.
