Wednesday, November 1, 2023 Lor-Don Employees Unanimously Ratify New Contract Providing Strong Wage Gains Locals Local 53 Ratifications Sectors Construction London, ON—The electrical division employees of London-based Lor-Don Limited voted unanimously in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with strong wage gains. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53, which was certified as the union for Lor-Don employees by the Ontario Labour Relations Board in September 2020. The new contract provides total package increases totalling $8.25 per hour (or 16.1 percent) for journeypersons over the term. Wage increases were the main feature of the settlement, bringing the journeyperson base hourly wage rate to $47.28 per hour by November 2025. Improvements to travel pay and conditions were secured as well as increases to premiums for night-shift work and the annual tool/boot allowance. “We’re pleased to provide this strong settlement for our members,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC representative. “With inflation, the priority of solid wage increases for our members came first. And management stepped up to meet that need. “We are pleased to provide this measure of security for our members and their families. The settlement provides them with excellent wages and a strong healthcare benefits plan for the present as well as a solid pension plan they can trust for the future.” You might be interested in Dave’s Story: Resilience, Respect, and a Path Forward 20 Jun 2025 Celebrating Strength, Heritage, and Opportunity on National Indigenous Peoples Day 19 Jun 2025 Bryan’s Story: Honouring Heritage, Finding Connection 19 Jun 2025 Seeing with Two Eyes: Teachings from the Canadian Mining Expo 19 Jun 2025
