Due to the unfortunate timing of the city’s publication of the comprehensive core service review, negotiations for a renewal agreement are set to commence this fall. Clarence-Rockland There has been focus on training and probationary volunteers being able to access specialized training. Efforts are being made to allow probationary volunteers access to training to allow them to attend more calls. Kawartha Lakes First collective agreement ends in the fall. Cooperation has improved after unionization, and the union was successful in resolving some grievances, including helmets. Midland Volunteers are currently in the middle of their collective agreement, with few issues. There has been talk of amalgamation with Penetanguishene. Quinte-West Negotiations finished in February. Uncertainty still lingers around timing of possible station closure. Sudbury Captain’s promotional process has seen many challenges with more than 33 volunteer captains expressing frustration at the process. Recruitment and retention continues to be a challenge.
