Monday, July 2, 2018 Local 304 Walks So Kids Can Talk Newsletters In May, Local 304 members from Mississauga, Barrie, and Owen Sound participated in their second Walk So Kids Can Talk five-kilometre walk in support of Kids Help Phone. Ahead of the event, Local 304 kicked off fundraising with a raffle with tickets sold by board members, stewards, and members, raising over $1,500 for the cause. Members at Cedarvale Lodge in Keswick organized their second annual family fun day, which was well attended and raised both funds and awareness for Kids Help Phone. Rhonda Gow, steward and local board treasurer, came up with the idea for the family fun day event. “I have enjoyed working alongside fellow stewards, coworkers, and our management team on these fundraising initiatives over the past two years,” she says. “It was definitely a great team-building experience. Hats off to our new general manager for joining our walk this year. I look forward to next year in the hopes that more members will join us in making a change in a child’s life.” Owen Sound—a small city with a huge heart—had the most people complete the walk this year. Local 304 Board President Michelle Livingstone rallied the troops and had walkers from Maple View Long Term Care Facility and Georgian Heights taking up the cause. “It was a great day to spend with coworkers, friends, and family to support such a good cause,” she says. “I look forward to raising even more money next year.” In total, Local 304 raised $4,000 in support of Kids Help Phone.
