Thursday, April 17, 2025 Local 301 Members at Mayfair and Glamorgan Care Centres Secure Wage and Other Improvements with New Contract Locals Local 301 Ratifications Sectors Healthcare CALGARY—Local 301 members employed at Mayfair and Glamorgan Care Centres in Calgary voted 80 percent in favour of ratifying a two-year collective agreement providing them with much-needed wage and other improvements. With this new agreement, members will benefit from vastly improved contract language, providing much needed clarity in a number of areas. The contract provides improved shift exchange language, and part-timer’s seniority was enhanced, which will allow them to pick up vacant shifts that may have gone to casual employees in the past. Another key benefit was an improvement to extended vacation language, which allows employees to take extended breaks of up to eight weeks every third year for those who choose to do so. Wage improvements were also a key focus of the new agreement. Newer members will be receiving a minimum of between four and five percent wage increase while long term employees will see a minimum of seven percent increase over two years—a massive increase in Alberta’s healthcare sector! Mayfair Care Centre is a long term care nursing home for elderly residents, with around 130 staff including healthcare aides, dietary aides, and housekeeping staff, among others. Glamorgan Care Centre is a long term care centre for residents with severe mental disabilities, with around 30 staff of similar classifications.
