Monday, April 2, 2018 Local 301 Board Update Local 301 Newsletters We are pleased to announce that Connie Bonney and Vicki Gagne will continue to serve on the board for another three-year term, after being acclaimed to the positions. Local 301 board member Joshua Marrazzo went to Kitchener, Ontario, as a delegate for CLAC’s National Convention on October 26-27, 2017. Josh presented a report of the Local’s activities. Local 301 also presented a resolution concerning the funding of disability services, which was debated and approved by the convention delegates. The resolution states: “Those living with disabilities are among the most vulnerable in our society. As a society it is a moral imperative to provide sufficient funding to ensure safe, quality, stable care. “CLAC Local 301 represents members employed at group homes supporting Albertans with disabilities. “Workers in this sector work incredibly hard to care for their clients. As a province, we must act to ensure that the funding required is allocated to provide safe, person centred care for the most vulnerable in our society so that employees can be compensated well, beyond the level of the minimum wage, so that the sector can attract and retain the skilled workforce necessary to provide this care.” CLAC has since petitioned the Alberta government to provide increased funding to Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) service providers for direct client care.
