Wednesday, December 15, 2021 King Nursing Home Staff Secure Above Average Wage Increases with New Contract Locals Local 304 Ratifications Sectors Healthcare Bolton, Ontario—The 88 unionized staff working at King Nursing Home Ltd. in Bolton, Ontario, voted 90 percent in favour of a new collective agreement providing them with above average annual wage increases and other improvements. The employees are members of Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 304. The union has represented the employees since 1987. Their collective agreement expired on May 31, 2020. All employees will see wage increases of two percent per year over the new contract’s three-year term. In addition, registered practical nurses will receive a special adjustment of 25 cents per hour, and dietary staff who have completed their food service worker certificate will receive an additional 50 cents per hour. Full-time employees will also receive an additional $25 toward vision care, bringing the amount to $300. The in-lieu-of-health-benefits premium that part-time staff receive will increase from 45 cents per hour to 55 cents per hour. “This is a very good settlement for our members working at King Nursing Home,” says Michael Glockner, CLAC representative. “The wage increases are above the current 1.5 percent rate that most long term care homes are providing. The management team recognized the extreme shortage of staff in long term care and has worked hard to try to attract staff during this round of negotiations.” “These last 20 months have been extremely difficult on front-line staff who have worked during COVID,” says Pam Smith, a dietary aide at the home, union steward, and member of the union bargaining committee. “They have been like family to the residents when their own family could not be here.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
