Just Say It!

Working alongside colleagues every day, be intentional about putting encouraging, caring, and thankful thoughts into positive words

By Ryan Timmermans, Regional Director, Edmonton Member Centre

Have you ever thought to pay someone a compliment only to hesitate and have the moment pass?  There are some thoughts we should really be intentional about putting into words:

If you love someone, tell them daily.

If you appreciate what someone has done, say thank you.

If someone has done a good job, tell them.

In the same way, if someone is struggling, ask how they are. If they’re joyful, celebrate alongside them.

Words can be simple, but when they come from a place of genuine care for another person, they can make a world of difference. A small act on your part can change a person’s day.

At the Edmonton Member Centre, we recently experienced the sudden loss of a long-time colleague, Derek Schreiber. It made me think about thoughts and words and how often they were shared or not. It also reminded me we’re not guaranteed tomorrow to say them.

Working alongside colleagues every day, be intentional about putting encouraging, caring, and thankful thoughts into positive words. With the stresses and strains of working in a COVID world, we can all benefit from hearing an encouraging word. It makes wherever we are a better place to be.
