Newsletters Construction If your Provisional Certificate of Qualification is about to expire because you have not been able to schedule or write your certifying exam, you can apply for a six-month extension. Key items to note Applications must be submitted before the date of expiry of your Provisional Certificate of Qualification. Late applications will not be considered. Extensions may be denied if you do not write your certifying exam prior to the expiry date of your Provisional Certificate of Qualification. Applications will not be accepted if submitted more than two months before the expiry date of your Provisional Certificate of Qualification. This means you have exactly a two-month window to submit your application. Apply for Extension Has your Provisional Certificate of Qualification already expired? If your Provisional Certificate of Qualification has already expired, then you do not need to file an extension with Skilled Trades Ontario, since it will be too late. In this case, you will need to schedule your exam as soon as possible. In the meantime, you will not be allowed to perform any work under the scope of your trade until you have passed your exam. Failure to do so could result in fines and other related penalties issued by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
