Provide examples from your work history and note how they apply to this position. Focus on results and prepare answers with: How many? How much? How often? • Practice answering the question, “Tell us about yourself.” Prepare a two-minute pitch that explains your destination (Why am I here? What’s next?) and your back story (relevant experience and skills) in a way that conveys warmth (authentic, trustworthy, and likable) and competence (focussed, clear, and credible). • Be prepared when asked, “Do you have any questions for us?” Asking thoughtful questions will demonstrate that you are curious and coachable. Your In-Person Interview • Arrive 15 minutes early. • Wear appropriate and professional interview attire. • Practice good manners and body language. • Print copies of your resume and references. • Ask the interviewer: “How would you describe the ideal candidate for this position?” Your Phone Interview • Clear the room of all distractions and/or move yourself to a quiet space. • Have your resume in front of you and have a pen and paper handy for notes. • Speak clearly and professionally. • Listen and don’t dominate the conversation. • If you miss the call, get back to the employer as soon as possible, and schedule a time that works for you. • Follow up with your interviewer within two to four business days. 10 Common Interview Questions Why do you want this job?
