Flooding in BC—How You Can Help

Many residents, including CLAC members, continue to grapple with the impact of the devastating floods and landslides

By Ryan Cameron, BC Construction Coordinator

We are deeply saddened to learn that we lost a member as a result of the disaster. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and coworkers grieving the loss and with all who have been affected by these catastrophic events.

It will take significant time to rebuild and for our communities to heal, but we can do so together. CLAC continues to work with project owners, employers, stewards, and members to respond to urgent needs and will provide further information regarding any additional supports as they become available. Please ensure we have your up-to-date email address to receive important updates.

As part of our response to this disaster, the CLAC Foundation will donate $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to support those impacted. The federal and provincial governments will match our donation, resulting in a total of $300,000. If you wish to help, please consider donating to the CLAC Foundation or the Canadian Red Cross.

During this difficult time, we encourage members who may need the services of our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) to contact LifeWorks by calling one of the numbers (T: 1-844-880-9142, TTY: 1-877-338-0275) or visiting lifeworks.com.

Additional Supports

The BC government has partnered with the Red Cross to provide funding for those whose primary residences have been placed on evacuation orders. Eligible households will receive $2,000. For more information, or to register, call 1-800-863-6582.

Provincial Disaster Financial Assistance

The BC government’s Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program remains open. It is available to any BC resident affected by floods or landslides between November 14 and 16, 2021. Assistance will be available for those without sufficient insurance to cover the damage, including homeowners, tenants, business owners, governments, and Indigenous communities. Learn more on the BC government’s website.
