Wednesday, May 1, 2024 First Contract Secured for Arcon Electric Employees Locals Local 53 Ratifications Sectors Construction London, ON—A first collective agreement has been secured for the employees of London-based Arcon Electric Ltd. The settlement was negotiated by their union, Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. Terms of the three-year settlement take effect April 29, 2024. CLAC Local 53 was certified as the union for the employees working in the electrical, sheetmetal, refrigeration, and millwright trades by the Ontario Labour Relations Board in September 2023. The agreement establishes a full spectrum of union contract benefits for the employees including annual wage increases and enrolment in the union’s healthcare benefits and pension plans. Other aspects include vacation pay increases, paid work time for health and safety training courses, and an annual workwear and safety footwear allowance. “The employees at Arcon looked to CLAC to provide the stability and labour relations guidance they saw in other CLAC-represented London area workplaces,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC representative. “The best kind of advertising is by word of mouth. CLAC members in London provided that positive message. We are pleased to accept this new group into the growing community of CLAC-represented workplaces.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
