Fighting Fatigue

Are you experiencing frustration, irritability, restlessness, burnout, exhaustion, and difficulty concentrating?

If so, you may be experiencing fatigue. Whether it’s because of the seemingly never ending COVID-19 crisis, or just generally a feeling of being overwhelmed at work or in your life, there always seems to be a steady stream of things to worry about.

4 Resources to Get You through Difficult Times

  1. Your CLAC stewards and representatives are available to answer your questions.
  2. Alberta residents have free access to a virtual mental health network called Togetherall, a free, online network that offers anonymous, peer-to-peer mental health services 24 hours per day, seven days per week. You can sign up for Togetherall at ahs.ca/virtualmentalhealth.
  3. Your workplace employee and family assistance program provides free guidance and support.
  4. Working in the health and service sector during the pandemic has been difficult for many. If you have a workplace safety concern, address it first with your supervisor and then reach out to your Workplace Health and Safety Committee or seek out a mental health first aid attendant.

6 Ways to Combat Generalized Fatigue outside of Work Hours

  1. Talk to someone about your concerns.
  2. Get six to eight hours of sleep per night.
  3. Set aside screen-free time, especially before bed.
  4. Exercise for 20 to 30 minutes each day.
  5. Take time to breathe slowly and intentionally.
  6. Pause to reflect on the things that you’re grateful for.
